Our Storefronts, Reimagined by the Université du Québec en Outaouais

Under the supervision of their poster design teacher, Yobé Valérie, graphic design students at the Université du Québec en Outaouais were tasked with redesigning Galeries de Hull’s storefronts. The theme they had to use as inspiration for their poster designs was “A Season of Sharing


Guided by artist and illustrator Alex Davro, selected students created inspiring and bold works that will be on display in the shopping centre from December 1 to 30.

Student Featured Creations:

Roxanne Dionne:

Roxanne has taken a family-oriented approach to the theme of sharing, focusing on time spent together. Her poster illustrates a return to more traditional values, including spending the holidays with family. Santa Claus is depicted here as a cowboy riding his reindeer, with a lasso in his hand that spells out the word “enlace” (embrace).

Alexa Beaumont:

Alexa's poster depicts simple, warm gestures, with two hands that represent generosity, an essential component of the holiday season. The table laden with food evokes moments spent together enjoying a delicious meal in good company.

Koriane Bégin:

Koriane’s poster shows two hands lifting the same text written on a bag of food. The message conveyed is that the holiday season is not easy for everyone, particularly from a financial standpoint. The poster encourages sharing not only with our loved ones, but also with other members of the community through food donations.

Lucy Bettencourt Pimentel:

 Lucy's poster is influenced by urban styles, with a stylish reindeer adding a festive touch. The lights and decorations reflect the concept of offering and sharing light, which can evoke friendship, love, and community.

Emily Dawson:

Emily uses an original and amusing approach to express sharing, namely through the tentacles of a purple octopus. In the message, the French word “tendre” can be interpreted as ‘giving’ or “soft,” two words evocative of the holiday season.

Laurie-Ming Goyette:

Laurie-Ming drew inspiration from the French expression “coeur sur deux pattes” (heart on two legs) for her poster. Since what we give counts above all else, she chose to depict generosity with a heart jumping on two legs, motivated by altruism and the act of giving.

Rosalie Guénard:

Rosalie's poster draws on her childhood memories of her elementary school teachers collecting food donations for families in need. Gifts and food appear side by side in the image to convey the message that Christmas is above all about spending time together and sharing.

Maïté Hogue:

In Maïté's poster, small characters leave the walls to come together in a visual world that evokes the warmth and conviviality of the holidays. The Christmas ornaments, which they are in, add a festive touch to the message. The characters' hands touching each other evoke mutual aid, complicity, support, or just a shared moment.

Emma Jacques and Antoine Lépine:

Emma and Antoine were inspired by socio-economic issues for their poster. They chose to portray the inequalities that can become more apparent during the holiday season. The main message centers around concrete action: giving, sharing, and helping each other to alleviate inequality.

Améliris Lauzon:

Améliris drew inspiration from eggnog, a product sold exclusively during the holiday season, in a fun and warm style. The hen on the poster offers milk to everyone, like a generous fountain representing sharing.

Laurent Masri-Clermont:

Laurent interpreted the theme playfully, illustrating a colourful miniature universe. The theme of sharing is highlighted with a pie and generous toppings symbolizing abundance. A slice of pie is offered to the viewer, encouraging sharing and camaraderie.

Lisa Moracciole:

For Lisa, Christmas is a time of generosity, affection, and human warmth. In her poster, every element expresses the affection of the holidays, including two foxes hugging each other. Sharing warmth, kindness, and comfort evokes the holiday season. The play on words in the text adds a touch of humour and alludes to being “pampered” at Christmas.

Jayden Tardif:

Jayden chose a humorous and striking style for his poster, featuring Christmas monkeys with bold and exaggerated facial expressions. The typography and visual style are inspired by the 1920s, adding a nostalgic and fun touch.
